What type of therapist should a teenager see?

Someone licensed, who works with teenagers regularly, and whom your teen can actually talk to. That last part matters most. I relate directly and candidly with teenagers, showing care and expressing concern around actions or behaviors when appropriate. See my page for a teen therapist in Boulder, and for parents, parent coaching.
